James Berardinelli's Review Of Chinatown

Every canvaser has certain attitudes that they bring with them into a conform to-up just like both reader has their own expectations of what a review should include and how its presented. James Berardinellis review of Chinatown is an outstanding piece that I struggled to criticize. Berardinellis review has shown brilliant points of Chinatown that may not have been picked out by an mean(a) audience, he goes into great detail about each and every scene and his descriptions are mostly accurate. Although Berardinellis review is subtile there are some descriptions and statements that I finger untrue and deluding. Berardinelli writes a description of each character as he sees them; some of these descriptions are not accurate or true. Berardinellis description of Noah Cross being, Evelyn Mulwrays charming-but-sinister father, Noah Cross, is inaccurate I find that Noah is not at all charming he is indeed evil, detrimental and often furtive. I as well as find Noah to be very cunning in the ways he presents himself in some scenes. A scene that I recall best shows Noahs cunningness is when Noah displays to Jake Gittes, the private detective, a fish served with the matter still attached, Noah says to Jake I hope you dont mind.



I believe they should be served with the head This is showing Jake that he is a man not to be trifled with. Noah is also pick upting Jake to do things the way he does in this scene, this shows the audience a typic relationship in the midst of Noahs game rules and how he pushes Jake to follow them. Berardinelli should have included this information as it shows the relationship between Noah and Jake and from this scene on Noah does his best to push Jake of his tracks. Another discrepancy that I have in Berardinellis review is that he writes in the end, she (being Evelyn Mulwray) turns out to be the lone with pure motives, this I disagree with as other characters such as Noah and Jake also have strong motives throughout the film.
