The college admissions process is due for a change, and this change should plug with equal opportunity. Affirmative bodily process has been a factor in businesses and higher education since the 1960’s. Its purpose was to eliminate discrimination in these fields and to provide equal opportunity to minorities. Unfortunately today, affirmatory go through is actually hurting the majority. Affirmative action acts as opposition discrimination, takes away opportunities from qualified people of the majority, and is insulting to minorities. Since colleges command to have certain percentages consisting of minorities, some of the majority is getting denied wholly because they are not part of the minority. Affirmative action is unjust to students who are not of minority hosts and should be eliminated.
Over the years, assentient action has provided discrimination against the majority. Even though affirmative action was originally meant to redress discrimination, instead affirmative action has promoted it (Sacks and Theil). As the majorities are getting denied to satisfy the required minority percentages, reverse discrimination builds up over date. As schools strive for diversity, in that location will be more discrimination against the majorities in rig to further diversify the campuses.
The result being that “affirmative action is a euphemism for discrimination: the granting of preference to some individuals and therefore the disfavoring of others on the basis of their race” (Graglia 48). As quoted, affirmative action relates straight to the definition of discrimination. This discrimination is unfair, and should not affect the college admissions process.
Any time that an individual is given privileges due to their race, the thought of discrimination enters into the mind.
