Humanism

Defined as the revival of classical letters, individualistic and hypercritical spirit, emphasis on secular concerns, humanism was a primaeval theme and idea closely associated with the Renaissance. It was an activity of cultural and educational reform engaged by scholars, writers, and civic leaders, challenging the chivalrous scholastic education, which emphasized practical, pre-professional and pre-scientific studies.
