Summary and Response: Rimmermans Civic Indifference in Contemporary American Politics In Chapter 3 of Rimmermans script on Civic Indifference, he discusses why Americans, and particularly college-aged students, argon uninterested and not involved in the semipolitical system. He converses on the steady decline of voter turnout (p. 268). Rimmerman presents various reasons why Americans have become so indifferent to macrocosm involved in politics and other social issues. Also, he speaks about the apathetic attitudes of citizens about political issues, as swell up as, their opinion that their vote has little to no affect on political decision (p. 269). I agree in satisfying with Rimmerman about civic indifference and its increasingly negative inwardness on America. Rimmerman starts out by discussing the fact that Americans do not seem to think that their vote affects the decisions made by political figures. He states that people would participate in politics if they mat they had a better chance at making their opinions meaningful. He goes on the talk about the decrease in voter turnout, stating that the United States is the lowest ranking country, among other industrial democracies, in average voter turnout (p. 266).
